DNS

Domain Name System, or DNS, is the backbone of your online presence. Every domain name [see below] uses DNS to control how visitors find your website and how you receive email. ... These numbers form Internet Protocol, or IP addresses, which act as the street address of your website working under your domain name. Computers can easily remember long strings of numbers associated to IP addresses, but for humans it's less possible, so domain names are used  in association with IP addresses.

Domain Name & TLDs

Domain names help us navigate the Internet without having to memorize random strings of numbers. To protect your business/brand name it is wise to purchase same name domains with different extensions i.e. you purchase @yourbusinessname.co.uk, it's wise to also purchase @yourbusinessname.com and @yourbusinessname.uk.

Domain names can be used to create an domain-based email account that looks professional and establishes credibility, and setting it up is easy.

TLD - A top-level domain

is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet.[10] The top-level domain names are installed in the root zone of the name space. For all domains in lower levels, it is the last part of the domain name, that is, the last label of a fully qualified domain name. For example, in the domain name www.example.com, the top-level domain is com. Responsibility for management of most top-level domains is delegated to specific organizations by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), which operates the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA), and is in charge of maintaining the DNS root zone.

Domain names, websites and web hosting are all different pieces of the bigger Internet picture.
